Install and sign in

Add the extension, sign in, and know exactly what it can see.

Install#

Open the Chrome Web Store

Install the extension

Choose Add to Chrome, then confirm Add extension.

Pin JotMe

Open Chrome's Extensions menu and pin JotMe so it stays visible in the toolbar.

Open Google Meet

Join or start a Google Meet call. JotMe appears inside the meeting.

Choose the JotMe icon in Chrome's toolbar. If you are signed out, follow the sign-in link and use the same JotMe account as desktop, mobile, and the web app. Usage is metered against that one plan.

What it can access#

Worth knowing before you install something into your meetings:

PermissionWhy
storageRemembers your language choices and whether the overlay is minimised
tabsKnows which tab is the Meet call

It runs only on meet.google.com and on the JotMe web app itself. It is not injected into any other site, and it asks for no host permissions beyond those.

What it reads#

Meet's caption channel: the text Google already produces for the call. The extension does not record your microphone and does not capture system audio; that is what the desktop app is for.

Language versions#

The extension ships in English and Japanese builds, and translates a wide set of languages inside the call regardless of which build you installed.

When it is the wrong tool#

  • Zoom, Teams, Webex, or in person: use the desktop app, which captures system audio and is not tied to one meeting tool. See Zoom, Teams, Meet, and other online meetings.
  • You need the meeting audio itself, system-audio capture, or desktop sharing tools: use the desktop app. The extension creates a transcript and AI notes from Meet captions, but it does not record audio.

Keeping it updated#

Chrome updates the extension for you. To force it, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, and choose Update.

When something is wrong#

Nothing appears in the transcript. Click the CC button to turn on Google Meet's captions. If captions are already on but the transcript is still empty, leave and rejoin the meeting, then turn captions on again. These steps usually resolve the issue.

It does nothing at all. Check you installed it in Google Chrome. It does not run in other browsers.

It is not translating. Check the spoken and target languages in the overlay, and that they are not set to the same language.

Removing it#

Right-click the toolbar icon and choose Remove from Chrome, or remove it from chrome://extensions. That does not cancel a subscription or delete your account. See Billing and payments.
