Custom vocabulary
Teach JotMe names, products, acronyms, and specialist terms across transcription and translation tools.
Custom vocabulary is an account-wide language setting, not a live-translation-only feature. Add the exact spelling of names, products, acronyms, and specialist terms that JotMe should recognize or preserve. Your language registries follow your account across supported desktop, web, mobile, and extension experiences.
One vocabulary, used across JotMe
Vocabulary can improve live transcription and translation, uploaded-file transcription, voice typing, meeting transcripts and AI notes, and text, document, image, audio, and video translation.
Where custom vocabulary applies#
| Feature | What vocabulary helps with |
|---|---|
| Live transcription and translation | Recognizing names and specialist language as people speak, then preserving those terms in translation. |
| Voice typing | Producing the intended spelling while speech is turned into text. |
| Meeting transcripts and AI notes | Improving the source transcript that the recording and generated notes use. |
| Uploaded audio and video | Recognizing vocabulary while the file is transcribed and translated. |
| Text, document, and image translation | Preserving account-specific terms when written or extracted text is translated. |
The term belongs in the registry for the source language—the language being spoken, typed, or read from the file or image. You do not need to duplicate it in every target translation language.
The Custom Vocabulary screen#
Add vocabulary#
Open Custom Vocabulary
In the web app, open Settings, then select Manage Custom Vocabulary. The desktop app also exposes Settings → Custom vocabulary for the same account-wide registry.
Choose the source language
Select an existing language tab, or choose Add Language. Use the language in which the term will be spoken, typed, or found in the source content.
Add the exact term
Select Add new entry, then enter the spelling JotMe should recognize. Keep an entry to three words or fewer. For multiple terms, Pro and Premium plans can select Bulk add and enter one term per line.
Add context and priority
Choose a category such as Name, Technical, or Business. Set importance from 1 (Low) to 5 (High); use a higher value for uncommon or frequently misrecognized terms.
Leave the term active
An active entry is applied across supported features. Turn the switch off to keep an entry without using it. Changes save automatically, and the counter shows the limit for your plan.
Use short, distinctive entries
Add the name or phrase itself—such as JotMe, Sora Tanaka, or Nova-3—instead
of a complete sentence. Create separate entries when several terms need help.
Edit, pause, or remove a term#
- Select a term, category, or importance value in the table to edit it.
- Turn Active off to retain the term without applying it.
- Select Remove to delete the entry from that language registry.
- Check the save status above the table before leaving the page; changes normally save automatically.
